Just BC said:Britain was just as essential in winning WWII as the U.S. was at least in the European theatre.
The War eventually ended because Truman had the balls to drop the bomb, something that Roosevelt may not have done.
Without the US intervention, it's unsure wether or not the nazis could have been beaten. Britain was essential, yes. But without the Russians, Hitler would have crushed England. England was able to resist because Hitler made the dramatic mistake to fight both in England and Russia at the same time.
The british barely had enough to resist, they would never had stepped foot on the continent without the US. Aand without the Western Front, Hitler could have been able to turn the table on the Eastern Front. Without Operation Overlord mobilising a big part of the nazi troops, these troops could have been used by the nazis to resist to Operation Bagration...
As long as he was focused on fighting one enemy after the other, Hitler was winning. When he became to be greedy and tried to fight several ennemis at once, he started to lose.
Ok, Truman had the balls to drop the nuke, which, I think, was the right decision. But even thought the japanese were still fighting, they had already lost the war long ago. Just like the German had lost the war long before MAy 8th, even thought Hitler refused to suurender and ordered that every german able ot hold a gun to fight against the russians to the death...
Roosevelt had to face Pearl Harbour, he had to take the decision wether or not to get the US involved in the War with the nazis. That's quite big for a man who couldn't stand on his legs...
Somy point is, if Roosevelt could do all that with the disease he had I guess Hillary will be able to hold office despite her pneumonia. But even if she can't, isn't that the point of electing the vice president with the president, so that the vice-president can hold office when the president can't ?
