I feel that I have difficulty in dropping anime that isn't seasonals.
For seasonals, that's easy (Too easy, perhaps): I just have to not feel like waiting one week for the next episode, and boom, it's dropped.
For non-seasonals... it's more complicated.
The last one I dropped was Macross 7 after one episode in 2023, and before that, the last non-seasonal I dropped was Mugen No Ryvius in 2020... after 14 episodes.

Yeah, apparently I have issue dropping stuff one I started it. Perhaps that's the reason I usually "drop stuff before starting" by not giving a chance to stuff I feel that I won't like, and also procrastinate quite a lot to start something, because I feel that if it's something I won't like, then I'll likely "force myself to watch all of it" and get "burned out".
Granted, there are some things I felt like dropping, but was ultimately glad that I didn't (e.g. Nanoha StrikerS quite recently), but I feel that this mentality also brings some problems with it.

I also fear falling into "the other extreme" where I might drop everything and never finish anything ("TikTok brain syndrome"), so there's also that to consider.
What should I do in my situation?

Probably overthinking it, I just go with what feels right when it comes to dropping shows. If I watch a few episodes and it's just not clicking with me, it gets dropped. Sometimes I can tell after 1 1/2 episodes, sometimes it takes 3 or 4, but if I'm not enjoying it then there's no reason to force myself to watch any more of it (will never understand those people who refuse to drop an anime then have to sit through a 1/10 show they hate). Then on the other hand, if I enjoy a show, why would I drop it? If it's entertaining, then I stick to it, but that said, if there's a sharp decline in quality it may get dropped if it reaches what feels like a point of no return.

There's thousands of anime, there's no reason to pick stuff that looks uninteresting or boring to you. Of course it's good to explore genres and have an open mind but like, I know I would dislike Boku no Pico, so why would I ever pick it up? Some stuff you can just tell look uninteresting to you, just don't bother with those shows, even if they're popular.

I blame TikTok for ruining younger generation attention span this the evidence why slow-pace or episodic nature has not be favored because young people cannot handle long episode even a 26 episode is already long,

The answer to this was playing a puzzle games where your brain can focus and increase your memory so that short attention span can increase there attention

For just just focused watching three episode and see you like but not just moved on sometimes there are chances that anime will "click you" it grab your attention if not try it few years later if see it can you attention

Sometimes even a rewatch your favorite that can be helpful, this grow back why you like this series, (and question yourself if you really like this anime)

I think people (including myself) get caught up in trying to finish a show just for the sake of it. It's almost as if we're trying to compete and set a new bar for the number of episodes or the number of shows we've completed (for a lot of people its a conscious effort).

Imo if you want to be less of a completionist (this might sound extreme) then the best thing to do is to stop watching seasonals. Its completely fine if you have a genuine interest in the show but abstain from watching something random just because its popular/trending. You don't have to feel that you're missing out, let go of that fear.

Another thing I'd like to say is to stop treating anime/manga like a game. There's no reward or great achievement handed to you once you finish the show/ the reward is the journey itself. If anything, you should cherish and take it slow, especially for shows that you're currently enjoying.

The truth is that I don't even have TikTok.
I didn't have a smartphone until starting college, and I rarely use it regardless.
So I guess that I "never fed the disease".
If something, I think that I used to be way less patient during middle-school.

I had forgotten about the three episode rule, I guess it might help me indeed.

I usually try to finish stuff I pick up, but I literally did just drop a show that I had expected to like and kinda hyped up in my head.

I don't follow any n-episode rule -- if the show annoys me I can drop it anytime. And heck, even if it's on my dropped list, nothing prevents me from picking it back up later.

That said, I do generally try to give something the benefit of the doubt, unless it actively annoys me. So, "boring" shows are usually okay to me while shows that actively rub me the wrong way are the ones I drop, even though they tend to have more people who like them.

Just get a life. Get a job; get a partner; have kids or get a dog. That will sort your priorities as regards dropping things that are not paying back the time they take up. And you'll be happier for it.

A drop is not forever. I'm trying again anime I dropped in the past and in some cases I completely changed my mind about them; I still don't regret dropping them, I'd even say dropping them was the best thing to do because that wasn't the right time, the right time is now.

Regarding the risk of "tiktok brain syndrome": even if I drop very often, there are plenty of anime considered "boring" by many that didn't bore me at all. Do you have any? If yes, you shouldn't be afraid of dropping boring anime.

I rarely drop stuff, but when I do it happens after the 1st-3rd episode and it needs to be either a very specific reason or It's just not for me [either at this time or ever] - If I already watch 7 episodes or something [and it has 12 or 24 episodes] I may as well watch it till the end, cause my list lacks low scores anyway [I'm looking at you Monochrome Factor, that was something XD]

The joy of watching anime does not come from completing it, it's the experience you have actually watching it. Each time you finish an anime, you feel a void in your heart, so you look for a new one, and the cycle repeats it self. Find a long running show that will last you a while, and instead of trying to complete it, just enjoy the damn thing. You will complete it by default anyway. Watch to enjoy, not for the sake of completing. Nobody cares how big your list is, how 'cultured' you are, if you don't like something, nobody is going to hold it against you if you just dropped it.

Long story short: It's not about the destination, its about the journey. Yes, I said it.

Go find a long show, a show WORTH your investment, take your time.

Take it from someone who used to think his list defined his credibility as an anime fan. Its just a list.

I used to watch shows that I didn't quite gel with and complete them, when I had more time on my hands. Now I'm time poor, and having watched a lot of anime, I can usually tell quickly whether a show will be something I like or not. If a show doesn't click then I drop it. Last time I really struggled with a show was Death Note, it's loved by loads of anime fans and widely acclaimed, but I found it boring and an edgy teen fest with MC who has a god complex. I got 10 eps in and just didn't like it, so dropped it. Same with Madoka, I don't like dark stuff so dropped that too.

Probably overthinking it. But also I understand the feeling of completing everything. I have no anime that I've dropped and kinda wanna keep it that way. Mostly for the fact that even if I hate a show I wanna see all of it so I can give all the reasons of why I hate it or why it was boring.

I used to be in a similar situation, until I started putting anime on hold. Now, I put anime on hold if I don't enjoy them that much or want to spend my time on other anime instead; then, when I have nothing to do, I might consider going back to them. It's essentially a soft drop which doesn't feel as permanent.

Then, If I realize I will never feel like taking something off of on hold, I start to consider switching it to dropped, until it eventually does gets dropped.

In the end, I don't force myself to watch anime I don't like and I don't struggle with my completionist tendencies. It's a nice system in my opinion.

Get a job and/or a wife. Once you only have 1-2 hours of time left per day for yourself and your hobbies, you'll not waste it on bad TV shows anymore. Life is too short for this. Sex and money are more interesting than bad TV shows.

Simply treat anime as a pure entertainment and not a chore.

If you feel you're not entertained by it then stop watching it.

Ask yourself why you're watching anime in the first place.

Omg this is so considerate and to the point! Hahaha.

Asking yourself why you watch anime when anime is for entertainment. You got that right!

I enjoy any anime involving cute anime girls. Like Hyperdimension Neptunia, Date a Live, Senran Kagura, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Touhou Project, etc. Anime girls are sexy and cute as hell.

Follow this simple advice: If It sucks: Hit the bricks!
We only have so much time on this planet, so best to spend it on things you enjoy. Anime boring? Drop it. Anime irritates you? Drop it. Just not clicking? Drop it!... Or at least put it on hold. You can set an episode limit if you like, but you are under no obligation to finish anything. Only watch stuff you want to watch. \o/

Anime is not worth taking seriously. Just watch it causally.......without much effort.
