      One thing he left out--what is used to make meat taste so good? Ah yes, plants! In seasoning--the use of herbs and spices--enhances the flavor. Without seasoning, most everyone (in this day and age at least) wouldn't participate in the consumption of meat. And there are plant-based alternatives (with similar texture) that we can season in the same we do meat minus the cruelty and it can taste pretty spot on.

    • @madeleineb9543
      @madeleineb9543 5 лет назад +91

      Born Yesterday could you elaborate on that? How is having a street debate forcing your ideas on others? It’s not about forcing anything. If anything the meat and dairy industry forces schools and doctors to advertise their products. Vegans are forced to see meat adverts everywhere they go. Kids are usually forced to finish their dinner even if they don’t want to eat meat. There’s many videos of kids online getting upset and not wanting to eat meat but you see their parents forcing them to do so. Again, could you elaborate on how having a debate and going against societies norms is forcing an idea on others? You willingly clicked on his video. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone’s head, apart from the cows and pigs who are being bolt gunned to death. So please, elaborate on how he is forcing his ideas on others?

      @@madeleineb9543 how sad, the poor children are forced to finish their food. At least they have food. Their parents work for the food they put on the table and they'll be wasteful if they allow their child throw it away. No seriously y'all need to offer all this meat you don't want to the tons of children I come in contact with here in my country. They will cry and thank you asking God to bless you for your kindness. Parents are doing what they can okay? Not everyone has the access to this lifestyle like you. Try to understand.

      same here!! I wanted to go vegan the first time when i was around 11 years old, but considering my parents cooked for me and they always put meat in the dishes i just didnt manage to do it. I often tried to experiment and at least remove the sausage for breakfast and stuff like that, but i was having a really hard time with it. I was doing that on and off for a couple of years till i finally managed to go vegetarian when i was 16 years old. Now I'm 19 and managed to go vegan a couple months ago. It was really hard for me, but I'm so proud I did it and I even influenced the way my parents eat. They are not vegan themselves, but at least my mom reduced her meat consumption greatly and switched completely to oatmilk.

      to help you understand his argument i would say this: think about the strongest bond in the animal kingdom. Mother-child bond is what im talking about. It is disgustingly cruel to take away a baby from a mom, for whom her milk was produced originally, and give it to human children who only need their own mothers milk and to adults who don’t even drink the breastmilk anymore but somehow think it is ok to drink it from an animal which walks on hooves, has four-chamber stomach and eats grass. Don’t you find it inhumane? Cow-moms do cry when their baby is taken away from them. Dont you at least find it weird that we still eat stuff from some other animals’ tits, like milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.

      Mienke Veneman I think he knows vegetarians may think they are making an ethical choice but they don’t realize the horrible and short life the cows go through to create the dairy products they are using. Also there are a lot of male chicks and cows that are killed immediately because they don’t produce eggs and milk. The animals are all slaughtered in a few short years when they are not producing the products you like to consume. If you aren’t a vegetarian for ethical reasons you may not care about any of that. There are still a lot of health risks with dairy.

For instance, if Ed was shouting everything, gesticulating wildly and making aggressive eye contact, all up in your face, then his body language would be violent and thus his peaceful message would get lost. Do you see what I mean? It's like with any teaching, if nothing is learned then the teaching doesn't work, regardless of how brilliant the content, so this is the problem with presenting arguments in an 'emotional' manner. Presenting 'emotional arguments' is a different thing as emotional reasoning is a cognitive distortion where a person concludes that their emotional reaction proves something is true, regardless of evidence proving otherwise. Your emotions cloud your thoughts, which in turn clouds your reality. Have you not found that when dealing with anything in life, it is best to be calm?

Just because you've never pressured someone doesn't mean others haven't. I like this man because his has arguments and is actually logical in what he says. However some of his arguments are invalid, because eating meat doesn’t necessary mean that we support making animals suffer or stress. What vegans commonly show are violent images of animal industry that are cruel to animals, but most vegans imply that this is the case for EVERY industry or animal farms. I do not support the violence, the stress or suffering certain industries inflict to animals, however I support killing them if it is painless. Doing it without inflicting any pain or stress is responsible, plus don’t vegans believe in God, paradise or reincarnation?
      Either way, it is better for animals to live a short life, then reincarnate in a better place or go to paradise, than living a long and boring life on Earth, like what can a cow do to enjoy life besides eating, sleeping and reproducing? It is proven that doing the same things again and again makes time seems very short, like if you play CoD everyday for one year and only doing that, you would be surprised how fast this year would pass. So it doesn’t matter for the cow to live a year or twenty like that, it would feel the same. Habits make time short.
      Plus if everyone turned vegan, then animals would reproduce naturally, given that humans will soon need more and more space, what would happen when animals take too much space for us humans to live?
      The solution? Support producing animal products in a responsible way. It doesn’t change the fact that we can eat meat, plus products made in a responsible way are of better quality because stress and suffering really degrade the final products.
      And what is wrong with killing animals in the responsible way? Ok they don’t always want to die, but do they also necessarily want to live either? As I wrote earlier, habits makes time short, but if you were, let’s say, eating alone, sleeping, and playing video games alone (or maybe just staring at nature) everyday in your life, sometimes reproducing with a random person, and having your parents, and children doing the same things everyday during your whole life, and not caring about them at all after a little while after being born or giving birth, to the point of not noticing them missing, then would you mind if they were dead, and would you also mind dying tomorrow or in two years, or dying naturally?
      What I just described is the whole life of a chicken in a responsible farm. They had the time enjoy everything life could possibly offer to them before dying instantly without pain, and without knowing they would die.
      That’s my point of view on this whole debate, but did someone actually read all my comment after reading that I support killing animals painlessly, and properly reflected about that before replying to me and insulting me because I am not vegan?

      Appeal to authority fallacy, but fine, two can play that game. The German Nutrition Society disagrees that a vegan diet is adequate (see below). What makes the ADA and BDA's opinion more valid?
      ---
      Vegan Diet - Position of the German Nutrition Society (DGE)
      On the basis of current scientific literature, the German Nutrition Society (DGE) has developed a position on the vegan diet. With a pure plant-based diet, *it is difficult or impossible to attain an adequate supply* of some nutrients. The most critical nutrient is vitamin B12. Other potentially critical nutrients in a vegan diet include protein resp. indispensable amino acids, long-chain n-3 fatty acids, other vitamins (riboflavin, vitamin D) and minerals (calcium, iron, iodine, zinc and selenium). *The DGE does not recommend a vegan diet* for pregnant women, lactating women, infants, children or adolescents. Persons who nevertheless wish to follow a vegan diet should permanently take a vitamin B12 supplement, pay attention to an adequate intake of nutrients, especially critical nutrients, and possibly use fortified foods or dietary supplements. They should receive advice from a nutrition counsellor and their supply of critical nutrients should be regularly checked by a physician.

      @@teljordan9236 The only nutrients that can't be found in a vegan diet can also not be found in a omnivore diet. B12 comes from bacteria. Meat is often fortified with B12. Vitamin D comes from the sun and omnivores often get vitamin D from fortified foods. It would be smart for everyone to supplement with B12 and vitamin D. I get DHA from algae. Seaweed has iodine, protein from beans, nuts and seeds, iron from greens. A well balanced vegan diet covers all the nutrients you mentioned except for B12 and vitamin D. I don't understand why any professional would say it is an inadequate diet. Maybe they don't trust the public to research properly. I don't take anecdotes too seriously, but no meat 3 years for me and no deficiencies here

      I feel that taste and the enjoyment I get from eating certain animals is more important than their lives... I don't practice cognitive dissonance regarding eating animals I actually enjoy eating certain animals in principal not just the taste... Its something I've contemplated on many occasions and I'm happy with my actions so far... I'll likely think on it more in the future and who knows what I'll decide upon or feel as I'm not someone who can be classed as one thing or the other... Isms and ists etc don't really apply to me as I change my mind regularly.
      I didn't decide that I feel it... It feels right for me and that makes it a moral action for me as morals are subjective... Not all of us agree on what's moral and what's not which is why we have laws in society to punish people who do things most of us seem to consider wrong... Not all those laws are ones I agree with and some are....
      Currently most people think its not immoral to eat animals so its not ileagal but majority doesn't make it a universal truth as there's no such thing... Because once again morals are subjective... Some people consider it moral to kill a killer in a death sentance which I don't agree with but these are the kinds of things we have to discuss to figure out... Its good to open the discourse but I wanted to state my own position as its not in agreement and that seems to be the point of such discussions ...
      Follow your heart and if it doesn't interfere with my freedoms I can't imagine having a problem with It.
      I have cut my meat consumption down for environmental reasons as I wish to promote longevity of our species but just like vegans im far from a perfect human being in any regard...
      I did spend two years and eight months living outdoors and trekking 10s of thousands of miles to raise money for 3 environmental charities but I do not consider people who haven't made such sacrifices as being not moral or caring for the environment as a whole... I have never driven a car for environmental reasons but I don't consider all the car drivers to be not moral or not caring for the environment....
      I also know a lady who eats certain animals but who has also dedicated much of her life as a volunteer doctor for people in third world countries... Are you OR I less "good" than her? Does she care less about the environment than me and do we care less about humans than her? Where is this universal set of moral scales so I can check definitively what's right or wrong or must I indeed assess these questions in and of my own human experience?
      Have you, I or the doctor lady done more good during are lives than bad?
      Humans are a complex bunch of beings to put it mildly and again... None of us are perfect.
      If you consider eating animals to not be a good moral decision its probably best you follow your heart and I'll certainly respect it... That doesn't mean if you think killing a human is moral I'd respect that because I don't consider humans and other species an arbitrary distinction and yes that does make me a specieist but I'm very OK with that.
      All humans are doing things that equate to a negative effect but most of us are trying to be decent and like I said... We are all far from perfect....
      I spoke to a vegan recently who said he would kill a mentally handicapped person instead of 100 deer because he perceived the deer to have a greater quality of life... That's the kind of thinking most people on earth will never allow to become the norm no matter how many clever sounding arguments you use to justify such thinking...
      I hope to do more harm than good during my life and if that's something your aiming for too then I wish you luck earthling and I hope you have some fun while on this crazy ride too 🌍

      @@AUTUMN-DARK Morals aren't really a part of my stance on environmentalism. My issue with the meat and diary industry is how wasteful, destructive and archaic it is.
      570,000 tonnes of fresh meat each year is wasted, so globally that's roughly 12 billion animals that don't even get eaten.
      The population of farm animals is unnaturally high due to artificial insemination, so the amount of crops wasted on feeding these farm animals could be spent on feeding the hungry communities around the world and we'd still have more than enough for ourselves.
      On top of that, for the average person only 10% of our daily energy comes from meat sources. So not only is meat wasteful, it is horribly inefficient.
      Eating meat is not a crime, not even a little bit. The core problem is that all this information about how damaging it is is out there, but people continue to stay in the dark about it. If people stopped ordering from factory farms and instead ordered from local butchers you're contributing to environmentalism because the animals they kill will go straight to you. In factory farms the amount of meat wasted is terrifying and most of it may not even get eaten.

How can you be against killing an organism that isn't sentient and isn't even visible to the human eye that is inside of another human being acting like a parasite, but you're fine with abusing, mutilating, artificially inseminating, forcibly impregnating live, fully sized sentient animals who feel pain and don't want to die

    Now have been vegan for 10 months and honestly can never see myself going back. It’s one of the easiest switches I’ve ever made to dramatically reduce my environmental impact and opened my eyes to animal rights (including human rights too).
    If you’re reading this and are unsure about whether to try going vegan, why not? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. you won't find solutions to the 'protein problem' from vegan sceptics, cause they are not really interested in letting people know about the existing solutions. three quarters of a century of experimentation has gone into it, it's all out there, free information, google is your friend.

He specifically talks about how vegan diets can be healthy and actually protein is a really easy one to sort out (nuts, chickpeas, beans, protein powders for sports people etc.). @Daniel Lilley I mean if i had a chicken and could get eggs from it i would because that doesn’t hurt the planet in any way but even the big egg companies - which are my only option at the moment- use so much grain, energy, and resources to get eggs from which is insanely negative for the planet with emissions that cause climate change

    • @brynn9951
      @brynn9951 4 года назад +4

      @Daniel Lilley I personally went vegan mostly from fish and meat but also for dairy - because these are the industries that hurt the planet the most. The meat industry produces more greenhouse gases than the entire transportation emissions from every nation combined. I went vegan for not only the reduction of those greenhouse gases but to save the species of fish that are being overfished, and are relied on for biodiversity in the food chain and help keep coral reefs alive. Without the cows

    • @brynn9951
      @brynn9951 4 года назад +10

      @Daniel Lilley The land used for the grazing of cows could be used for forests to absorb the carbon, but people want hamburgers and the meat industry will contribute to grow until there is no more land left, and cut down the forests for that land. The largest factor of the depletion of the amazon rainforest is for animal agriculture for cattle. And the waste produced is then brought down through runoff and furthers the pollution of our oceans and all water. So really, I don’t mind a few eggs from locally produced sources, but I cant support the production of dairy, meat, eggs (corporately made) and fishing because we have to do SOMETHING to stop the impeding destruction of our Earth.

    • @gameer1010
      @gameer1010 4 года назад +6

      @@ermguitar2052 So then you acknowledge that killing plants is "bad" since it's still taking the life of a living being? Then in that case, you could easily say that vegans need to eat more plants to compensate for the lack of meat since meat is higher in calories and satiation then plants.
      So by eating plants only, you have to eat hundreds of living beings a day to survive, while with meat, one living being can last you years if you have a big one such as a cow. Yes, the cows will eat lots of plants, but they typically have shorter lifespans anyways when they are harvested for meat, so they eat less plants overall in their lifetimes.
      So by eating them early you protect the lives of plants being taken by the cows AND you prevent yourself from killing more living beings by turning to a food source that requires less overall killing of life to provide equal nourishment.

      I’m a vegetarian and vegans/vegetarians need to stop pretending like they have the moral high ground.
      1. Animals may have a “will” to live, but we need to stop pretending like we know want animals want.
      2. Animals don’t even come close to having the same cognitive capacity to understand rights/morals. Part of extending rights comes with the assumption you have the ability to reciprocate those rights. Animals contain no such ability.
      3. Granting rights to animals that don’t have any way of conveying thoughts or perceptions makes any social contract between a human and animal inadequate.
      4. The fact an animal may run away because they are running for their “life” does not warrant the immediate extension of rights. Every animal, including humans, obviously maintain engraved biological fight or flight responses when in danger. We need to stop confusing that with they do not want to die in the same sense humans imbue their rejection of not wanting to die. They are not the same thing.
      5. The fact we have other options to choose from to not kill animals does not make it a moral obligation to not kill animals for the sake of stopping animal consumption. If we did apply this moral obligation to animals, why couldn’t the same be done for plants ? Even though plants don’t feel pain, that does not mean they want to be unnecessarily eaten. The same logic used by vegans/vegetarians. And in the same way, a variety of plants that are taken advantage of for consumption exhibit natural defense mechanisms that show they don’t want to be eaten either.

    • @BeldnerFilms
      @BeldnerFilms 6 лет назад +1

      @@PhillySortsFan46 I agree with Crazy. Some of you vegans haven't thought it out this deeply and are not basing your position on systematic critical logic. Many vegans are just a bunch over empathetic "Humanitarians" who are letting way to much feeling influence their choice rather than using critical philosophy and logical debate. The vegans also lace their arguments with a lot of "scientific studies" to hide the fact that they have weak fragile hearts.

      So. Question for you.
      When you eat the plants, aren't you killing them for your food?
      You are killing a living creature. A plant is just as worth it as an animal.
      Mammals have red blood. Plants' sap is of different colour.
      Just because you can't hear plants cry when you mutilate them by cutting their leaves- it doesn't take away the fact that you kill the living plant to feed yourself.
      How immoral!
